ERS-1 SAR image of a collection of ice floes in Beaufort Sea (North slope of Alaska) taken in the month of October. It is a low resolution image with pixel spacing of 100 meters and a resolution of of 240 meters. This image is courtesy of the Alaskan SAR Facility and is originally due to European Space Agency. It's reproduction is limited to educational uses.

Currently, Shyamal Peddada and his students are developing automated statistical tracking algorithms to track the motion of ice floes using consecutive images. The motion polar ice cap is believed to greatly influence weather patterns.
